New AP materials – a sneak peek

June 04, 2013

I’m currently heavily into my AP material re-write for the new curriculum, and am encountering a number of LO’s that require me to re-think some things. One way I have been tackling some of the more obscure LO’s, is by adding additional Tasks to my notes. I thought that you might like to see a tiny bit of what I am talking about.

For example, LO 4.9 says, ‘The student is able to explain changes in reaction rates arising from the use of acid-base catalysts, surface catalysts, or enzyme catalysts, including selecting appropriate mechanisms with or without the catalyst present.

It’s not necessarily easy to interpret this, but after a few emails, a look at the sample exam, a glance at the questions in the new course description and a little bit of lateral thought, I came up with the following first draft of a new Task to cover LO 4.9.

Let me know what you think, criticisms and corrections are always welcome!
